Cartagena, Colombia. “You’re taking your kids where?”

“I’m sorry, you’re taking your kids where for spring break?” I heard many versions of this question when discussing an upcoming trip with my boys to Colombia for spring break. Let’s just say, the destination’s appeal was not immediately obvious to everyone whose knowledge of the country was either very limited or decades out of date. This South American nation of nearly 50 million has undergone sweeping transformation in recent years and is a great family destination.

The city boasts miles of beaches and a beautifully preserved colonial walled city where the vibrant colors almost defy description. 2019 Travel Resolutions — What are yours?

At the start of each new year, I love to sit down and think about a theme or tone I want to set for the year ahead. For me, this exercise invariably involves thoughts of travel. Over meals, I talk to the kids about what new places they would like to discover and what types of experiences would be of most interest to them. Between their wishes and ours (the parents), we come up with a rather LONG list. In addition, Jim and I have a list of destinations for kid-free trips that we are constantly curating (African safari anyone?).

Nuts and Bolts: How YOU can earn the Southwest Companion Pass

 

Happy Monday! As we discussed in the last post, the Southwest Companion Pass can be an extremely lucrative travel award perk. It allows you to designate an individual to fly for FREE with you on any Southwest flights for the rest of the year in which it is earned and all of the following year! What’s more, your Companion will fly for free even when you redeem Southwest Rapid Rewards points for your own ticket (i.e. you both fly free).
